COUNSELORS IN TRAINING + JUNIOR COUNSELORS

The Leadership Training Programs mark an exciting departure from the camper program. As a participant in the programs you are a role model to campers and peers; you

are expected to understand and be pro-active about Runoia's philosophies and policies. You are responsible to your program leader and work under her direction. This is not a vacation, but rather, a life-learning experience. It is also a lot of fun and the achievement you feel from participating in the challenging programs of the Leadership Training Programs will remain with you for a lifetime.

The Leadership Training Programs at Camp Runoia are

progressive programs structured around building leadership

skills, introducing and applying teaching techniques,

facilitating group process, becoming a role model in the

community, continuing to learn about yourself and others

and creating strong friendships among peers.

The skills gained in these programs will apply to your school

leadership positions, employment situations, team sports,

youth group dynamics and social skills. Because you will

be encouraged to work hard, play fair, try new things and

push yourself, you will discover a new sense of self and

how you fit with the world around you.

The CIT program stands for counselor in training and

it is the introductory leadership program, for girls who

were eligable to be campers the previous summer.

Usually after the succesful completion of the CIT year, you will be offered acceptance into the Junior Counselor program. As a JC, you will live in a cabin with campers and senior counselors and you will have the advantage of learning everything you need to know to be an amazing counselor without being overwhelemed with too many responsibilities. While you are expected to work as hard as full counselors, we also understand that you are still engaged in an important learning process. The Leadership training started in the CIT program continues as a JC where you will participate in various seminars from lesson planning to child psychology. As a JC you will also continue to develop your activity area teaching skills, having the opportunity to teach various classes under the supervision of other counselors and directors.
