Dear Alumnae, From the moment Camp Runoia alumnae arrived in the area we could feel the momentum building for the 100th celebration on July 15th and July 16th, 2006. We had people join us from across the country covering nine decades of camp! The steamy hot weekend led a lot of people to the lake for swimming, boat rides, canoeing, sailing, kayaking and lake chatting – a new activity where groups of women circle-up in the water and chat with each other! In addition to the special events around camp and families who enjoyed doing riflery, playing tennis or climbing on the climbing tower, many people relished the chance to spend time in the Runoia museum, find their picture in the Runoia Log books, and show their families and friends all over camp. We adored having The Gawler Family return to camp and entertain us with music at supper. The campfire was the capstone event to a wonderful day – special thanks to Gerby for writing Camp Runoia a birthday song and leading us in singing it at the campfire. Thanks to Diane for leading us in camp songs and to Matti, Boop and K for serenading us with guitars. Camp Runoia sends a hearty thanks to Jody Sataloff and Laura Kind McKenna for helping to organize the event and to all of you who attended making it so special. In addition to the 100th, we had a grand season at camp. We had record-breaking attendance and provided tuition assistance through the Betty Cobb Campership Fund to eleven deserving campers. These girls appreciated the opportunity to be at camp and each one added so much to our community. We are amazed and impressed at the fund raising effort the CRAO board of directors has done to increase this endowment. Thank you to Jennifer Sachs Dahnert for her tremendous leadership – we could not be as far along without you Jenny! Also, a sincere thank you the generous alumnae and Runoia friends who have helped us reach toward our financial goal. This summer at camp, we were honored by a visit by the CEO of the American Camp Association (ACA), Peg Smith. She was on a tour of seven Maine camps and we were pleased to selected as one of her stops. She has been instrumental in strategic changes at the national level of American Camp Association, inspiring all of us in our sections to get the word out about the value of camp and get more children into camps across the country. We were given commemorative plaques from ACA national and the local New England Section of ACA. Also, in commemoration of our 100th, we received a personal letter from Maine State Senator, Susan Collins. The most amazing gift we received was from Carla Sandberg Babcock: a necklace given to Miss Lucy Weiser for her 100th birthday. Thank you Carla! We are busy preparing for 2007 and we are always happy to see alumnae. Come visit us anytime – certainly do not wait another 100 years!! Bobos and best wishes to all,
